Shuga Season Two: First Episode Walkthrough

shuga series kenya

Shuga TV drama series

If you enjoyed watching the first season of Shuga, you are most likely going to enjoy the second one too mainly because the theme of love, sex and money hasn’t changed. The syndicated drama continues to preach about how brilliant young Kenyan youth gamble with their promising futures through the thrill of living dangerously.

I found the first episode of season two extremely short, probably because it unfolded as a library of literally all the African hit songs. At some point, I started wondering what the next number would be.

Episode one focuses on the lives of Violet (the party girl) and Baby, both of who featured in the first series of Shuga. Through their life experiences, a message of the role of parents and the influence of people we look up to is passed on.

This episode specifically explores the subjects of rape in households, living positively with HIV and opening up to parents on matters affecting one’s life.

When Baby (a love child) opens up to her mother about her Uncle’s sexual advances, she (the mother) dismisses her and throws the subject under the carpet.

Violet’s dad finds it hard to understand that her daughter got infected with HIV from one of her drunken frenzies. His daughter’s success doesn’t mean anything to him anymore. He goes ahead to demand that she withdraws from her new job as a columnist for SWAG magazine.
