According to Socialbakers.com, Kenya is ranked 71st in the World in terms of the number of Facebook users.  In the last three months alone, about 21,360 new Facebook accounts have been created, bringing the total number of users to a remarkable 1,346,360.

The same statistics also indicate that in Africa, Egypt has the highest number of Facebook users with a massive 10,736,080 accounts. That number is almost equal to the entire population of the Republic of Chad and about 8 times the number of Facebook users in Kenya.

South Africa follows Egypt and is position 34 in the world with 4,604,540 Facebook accounts. Morocco has 4,318,840 subscribers at position 38 followed closely by Nigeria at position 39 with 4,258,780 users.

Tanzania narrowly missed a spot in the top 100 by pulling in at position 101 with 464,800 accounts while Uganda settled in at position 105 with 399,800 Facebook users.

In Tanzania’s case, it barely comes as a surprise that there are less than half a million people in Facebook considering that their conventional nature is to converse in Swahili. Many social media fanatics can be found in the popular Jamii forums chatting away in Swahili.
