Afrigator Shut Down

The popular African blogs aggregator has been closed down. The site which has been recently down all the time was operational since 2007, the website had amassed a huge database of African blogs, podcasts and video all over the continent. The main reason for the shutting down of Afrigator is the closure of Adgator in October which was the main income source for Afrigator.

Here are the words of Afrigator founder, Justin Hartman, and I quote:

“About two months ago we closed Adgator down due to declining revenue and a core shift in focus for the four shareholders involved. Due to all of us having other interests Adgator became more of a burden than asset,” explained Afrigator founder Justin Hartman.

Justin Hartman
“Afrigator was closed down essentially to avoid the recurring costs of running the operation. The hosting bill to run Afrigator (across a pretty intense server structure) was just too high when you consider our primary revenue stream was closed down a few months earlier.”

Other African blog aggregators that remain standing are BlogAfrica by AllAfrica.com and the South African blogosphere Amatomu

So sad it was shut down. it was good for building back links. I hadn’t logged in for over one year and when I recently tried to find the website it couldn’t be found. I hope blogafrica is good.
